Burt Berlowe is an author, journalist, educator and social change activist. He has been writing and publishing people’s stories for more than four decades.

His current book: The Compassionate Rebel Revolution: Ordinary People Changing the World has been honored as a finalist for a Midwest Book Award and the international Reader’s Favorite award. It follows its predecessor The Compassionate Rebel: Energized by Anger, Motivated by Love, co-authored by Berlowe, and honored as a finalist for the nationally-prestigious Nautilus Award, presented during Book Expo America in Los Angeles.  Together, the two volumes feature more than 100 never-before-told stories of personal and societal transformation. These books are accompanied by an educator’s guide developed by conflict resolution students at a St. Paul college for classroom use. Also available are two sets of inspiring video interviews with featured compassionate rebels that are companion teaching tools and can also be downloaded for public viewing.

Prior to writing books, Berlowe worked as a reporter for several daily and weekly newspapers and as an award-winning editor of Twin Cities community newspapers. He also wrote freelance articles and columns for numerous local and national publications.(add specific titles if you have the space.) In his recently assumed role as a peace journalist, Berlowe has contributed articles that have been published by the Transcend Media News Service, the  Peace Journalist, the Peace Alliance, the Alliance for Peacebuilding, a national peace studies journal and other similar publications.

In all of his work, Berlowe’s ultimate objective is to use storytelling as a way to transform our culture. “I believe that everyone has a compassionate rebel story waiting to be told,” he says. “I want to help people find and share that story and turn it into action that will positively change our society now and for years to come.”
